The answer is it depends a lot on whether or not you're running mods. There, I went into the lava, are you happy? Me: glance quickly Um, it says Sphere Doomer. Toddler: But what's his name called? Please? Me: No, not while I'm holding the cannon. If he's gonna 2P with me he's much happier joining as Meta Knight in Kirby (while our daughter asks us if we can go into the stage-end door. I feel like it really would be a blast to have a second player collecting the star bits for me, but my husband would probably go stir crazy if that's all he could do. She didn't seem to realize her controller no longer did anything. Asking her not to shoot them only lasted so long. At one point I started giving her a wiimote without batteries in it, because she would just waste all of my star bits in 20 seconds.
She didn't quite get the hang of pointing at the screen at this age, but she looooooved the sound that shooting star bits made. I tried getting my 2.5 year old to play it with me. This is important because bending hard tube results in kinks (which block the tube) rather than smooth bends. Another thing I think is worth pointing out is that copper can be annealed (softened).
